New to E17 Designers are "Vintage Playing Cards" who create handmade greeting cards from vintage games, playing cards, bingo counters and 1920's parlour games.

Introducing new E17 Designer Ava & Maude

These great handmade cake stands are from Samantha of 'Ava & Maude'. The stands include great vintage pieces making them very eclectic and will only be available at the next E17 Designers market. All they need is some handmade cakes from Susie's kitchen and you have the perfect combination!

Introducing E17 Designer 'Rishta Designs'......

Hamlila of Rishta Designs is a new E17 Designer who is an innovative and inspiring creative textile designer. Her work experiments with colour, texture, and different fabrics, to produce unusual "unique" individual pieces such as cushions, canvas art, and wall hangings. Make sure to check out her colourful and vibrant pieces at the next event at the end of November.

Dining Table for Public Feasting on Walthamstow Marsh
Coppermill Fields, Walthamstow Marshes
OPENING FEAST: 17th October 2010 from 12pm

Table on the Marsh presents a permanent communal public dining space for visitors of Walthamstow Marshes. The table, built to accommodate twenty people at any one time, is designed by local architect Tabitha Pope, whose imaginative and sustainable proposal was selected following an open competition in the beginning of 2010 that saw over 50 proposals. The oak dining table will be richly carved with patterns carefully collected from local residents and will remain installed as a permanent structure. London’s green space is increasingly under threat as Councils threaten to sell off sections to developers and the Olympic legacy hangs in the balance.

Drawing on the East London tradition of street parties this project seeks to highlight the cultural importance of the city’s green spaces as sites central to our communities. They are not only sites for leisure, but also socialising and family time. The project aims to encourage creativity in public space and create connections amongst friends and strangers.

On the 17th October the table will be celebrated in a day of feasting.

Participants are asked to bring along a home-cooked dish to share with others. Events on the day include a walk and talk about local flora and fauna on the Marshes, workshops in printmaking and puppetry and music from local folk musicians Theo Bard and Louisa Jones and bluegrass from the Yellow Bellies.

Inspired by the beauty of English country gardens, this pretty collection of silk lavender bags is designed to combine rich colours with the aromatic scent of French lavender. Each lavender bag is hand crafted and embellished with fine beadwork or delicate spays of flowers.

Introducing new E17 Designer Sue O'Hea.....

Sue is new to the E17 designers and is very interested in experimental textiles and working with mixed media. She is currently working on paper and wire jewellery and using electrical flex to make rings. Her creative talents also stretch to silk painting.

Art Trail update and another date for the diary.....

A brilliant Indian summer day brought what seemed like most of E17 to the Market on Sunday 12^th September, as well as many other E postcodes (plus a Wimbledon one……..)

The E17 Art Trail guide allowed so many visitors to work their way around the trail and then take part in our event during the afternoon (tea and cakes in the “yard”, and thirty designers to chat to); the light vibe of the Rose and Crown Singers gently serenaded us with “Scarborough Fair” and many other favourites. It all added up to a lovely day which we hope inspired many and made people realise the enormous talent that the borough has to offer. See you next time!

Introducing E17 Designers 'i am inspired'....

i am inspired is a joint venture between Kirsten, an artist and graphic designer, and Sharon, a textile artist. Together they combine their talents and expertise in their differing fields to produce artworks, felted pieces and lovely knick knacks. Both are typical Gemini's so their work can take inspiration from multiple sources often creating sets of work that is completely different from each other. Their favourite place in Walthamstow is the William Morris Gallery and the local market both for their abundance of colour and pattern.
